Mountain Gods...
I knew watching Japan Hour almost every week would come in handy one day... (this is in rather close relation to the previous post about X-Men and the Metaphors that make sense to me)
Particular episode some weeks back: We worship the mountains. We'll need to take proper care of everything on this mountain and we must be careful not to annoy and anger the mountain spirits or the crops for that year will not be as abundant... Ok, fair enough, I feel that burning Joss sticks and placing fruits at the altar of the mountain spirit does not make sense to me... I'm after all a Catholic. However, how true and how well put! Because the villagers staying near the mountain dare not aggravate or anger the mountain spirits, this means that they do not cut trees down (a.k.a. slash and burn cultivation), don't litter the forest with rubbish or build manufacturing plants around and pollute the area. And naturally, as a result, they get good spring water, they get clean catch from the streams/rivers and much of the natural resources occur a-plenty...!
We need to live in peace with nature... (Why are economies competing to be the best? to have the highest per capita income? y are there wars? the list goes on) these just kills resources and this basically means that mankind, will, because of the lack of natural resources, diminish... y should we be courting our own death? Does it necessarily mean that the more famous you are and the richer u are, u'll be happier and thus, can live a better life? I know Maslow's hierarchy of needs comes into play here and it really is, in a negative view, a rather unfortunate nature of humankind... the chase for material satisfaction, not emotional, not spiritual... Just Material.
Ok... I think too much intellectual things in ONE day...
On a lighter note...
To all those who graduated at the same time I did:
OUR BOND IS OVER! Time to celebrate, paint the town red, paint the schools red!
I'll prob bring my 'painting' to the streets of Taipei too... ;)
Happy ORD! haha...
